Why OC Files exists

OC Files exists so that the people in Orange County's oldest unsolved cases aren't forgotten, and so that anyone who might hold the missing piece can find their story easily.

What this site is and isn't

OC Files brings the scattered public record for each case into one readable page: official statements, decades of newspaper coverage, court records and public databases. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Orange County Sheriff's Department or any other agency, and it is not a place to report tips. Please contact investigators directly.

How each person's story is written

  • Every significant fact is sourced. Numbered sources at the foot of each page link to the original record wherever one is online.
  • Certainty is labelled. We distinguish facts confirmed by official or multiple independent sources from single reports and from disputed accounts.
  • Contradictions are shown, not hidden. Where official summaries and contemporary reporting disagree, we present both.
  • No speculation about suspects. We name a person of interest only when the investigating agency has done so publicly, and only in its words. Unofficial accusations, rumors and armchair theories are left out.
  • Privacy for the living. We do not publish relatives' contact details or private people's home addresses, and we leave out names that aren't needed to understand a case.

Photographs and maps

Photographs, forensic renderings and composite sketches on this site were released publicly by the Orange County Sheriff's Department to help identify people or generate tips. Where no photograph has been released, we say so rather than use images of uncertain origin.

Maps show approximate places described in published sources: a neighborhood, a road, a town. They never show a private address. Please respect people's homes and private land.

Who provides this site

OC Files is provided free of charge by AC Dev Services LLC as a public resource. There are no ads, no paywalls and no tracking. For corrections, updates or questions about the site, email [email protected].

Corrections and updates

Cases change: people are identified, persons of interest are named, and occasionally a case is solved. Each page shows when it was last reviewed. Where this site and an official statement disagree, the official statement should be treated as current.

Spotted an error, or have an official update? Email [email protected] with the page and the source that shows the correction. Please send tips about the cases themselves to investigators, not to us.

In memory

Every story here is about a person who was loved: a child, a parent, a friend. Their families have lived with not knowing, often for decades. We have tried to write about each of them with the care we'd want for our own.
